Hi All,

Sorry, I'm writing in English because my German isn't good enough yet. I'm wondering what if: - I work in Luxembourg - I live in Germany - I lose job. As I know Luxembourg pay unemployment benefit for 3 months then country of living (Germany) - But what happened if I only live in Germany? I never worked there, never pay taxes and so on - I'm registered in commune in Germany, I just live, pay bills, do shopping and so on - Do I received unemployment benefit from Germany or I just have to back to my origin country?

Thanks for the answers, Miroslaw

Are you really sure that you will receive benefits from Luxembourg?

If you are a EU-Citizen, you will receive unimployment benefits in Germany when you are a german residen. No doubt, the benefits in Luxemburg would be way higher ( sth. like 80 % of your last salary if I am not mistaken) whereas in Germany unimployment benefit ( normally 60-65%)is capped at around 1700 EUR per month..... If I am am well informed the 3-months rule applies to those who live in Luxemburg when they lose their job and want to move back to Germany. Nevertheless, when you are afraid of loosing your job I would not recomment a fake adress in Luxemburg or switch residence in a hurry, as this would lead you in serious trouble in Luxemburg. I hope this helps

It's paying to move to L; you have to live there for 6 months before you acquire any unemployment indemnities

Even if you've never paid taxes in Germany, you benefit from the unemployment system, granted that you have lived there for some time. A year should be OK. Don't count on help from the employment agency, though, if you lose a job, you're much quicker in finding one yourself...
