Sorry to write this in English but my German written knowledge is awful. I live in Saarland and pay a forture for my car insurance. Does any of you have the name of a good car insurance that does not cost the price of a car ? Already thank you for your help !
the fortune you'll pay for your car insurance depends on a lot of factors: - on the "power" of your car, the more power, the more expensive - on the age, the newer, the more expensive (Vollkasko/Teilkasko) - the amount of kilometres you do during the year, the more, the more expensive - etc. pp.
I would propose to ask all possible insurances (AXA, Allianz - but they are normally very expensive!, HUK-Coburg, etc., all you can find in the yellow pages) for an offer to be able to compare. You can also receive offers online by Cosmos Direct (direct insurance, they are cheap, but have lower support). Afterwards you will be able to make your decision!
Note, that you must be member of an insurance for a certain number of months (I think 18 months but I'm not sure) before you're allowed to change (except if they increase the rates), i.e. if you have for instance entered the insurance only 3 months ago, you will need to wait.
Hope this helps?
PS: I'm insured at HUK-Coburg, they are normally rather expensive, but I have combination insurances: means, if you have more insurances there (household contents and/or casualty insurance, fire, etc.), you pay less for each single one
Thanks for the tip. I'll need to read the conditions again but might have to wait some months before changing. I am also with Huk Cobourg for all insurances. My car is new and only 7000 € worth and they ask me 1250 € insurance a year ! I think this is theft for in 4 years they'll have received the same amount as for a new car, and this to cover a risk. When you know I only had 1 accident in 10 years I find this absolutely outrageous. I'll compare anyway with the one from Axa to see if they are as expensive.
Thanks again for your help !
First of all you should have a look at your insurance contract and check, whether you can change your insurance now. Normally you have to keep a term. I´m not quite sure, but I think you only can cancel the police at the end of the year or when the insurance gets more expensive.
You can also search the Internet for "Versicherungsvergleich" which will lead you to pages like http://www.aspect-online.de or similar. Here you can, after entering details about yourself and your car, compare several insurances at once. Be aware, that those online-comparisons seldom cover all insurances, which means that they can only help. And of course, they are normally in German....
There ar a lot of factors defining the rate of a german car-insurance. what kind of car do you have ? and what kind of "Versicherung"? Do you have "Haftpflicht" only or "Voll- or Teilkasko" also? If your car is worth 7000,-€ you do not need a Vollkasko any more which pays if the car is damaged in an accident produced by yourself. This insurance is for rather new cars only. Teilkasko pays if someone steals the car (or parts of it) or if the car id damaged by storm etc.. I would say this insurance is also not a must - but there are different opinions. The Haftpflicht ist the most important insurance and you have to have it to run a car in Germany, so this one you can't avoid. But the rate has nothing to do with the price of your car as it covers the risk of other cars and drivers beeing damages by you and your car. This risk is calculated by the insurance companies for each car type on the base of the accident statistics. The other main-factors on which the rate depends are: - The area you live in (In some areas there are statisticaly mor accident then in others) - nothing you can do in this matter - only leavin Saarland 🙂 - Your age and how long you possess your driving licence - The Kilometers per year you drive with the car - If you are the only driver or if there are others (exspecially young) drivers using the car - and lots of other stuff depending on the insurance
Check out the internet, there are some "Direkt-Versicherer" managing everything by phone or the internet which are normally cheap. For example: huk24, CosmosDirekt, DA-Direkt, but as said by others already : you have to compare, there are big differences Cancelling your old insurance should be possible at the end of the year or if it gets more expensive OR if you have a brand new contract. I think the first two weeks you can still change the insurance. Best regards
